If you are offered a pair of quoits down the pub, then you need to know this. Ten pairs of quoits, which vary in weight from 4lb to 12lb, were taken from a storage box belonging to Dunnottar Quoiting Club at Mill Lade, Stonehaven.A spade was also stolen some time between 2pm and 6pm on Monday.

Club treasurer Jim Collie said: “Replacing the quoits will cost around £500 if we can actually get them made. They are made in moulds so they are expensive to get nowadays. I feel sick about it. Our club will be in danger of folding if we can’t get them back. They’ve left about four pairs but that isn’t much use. The biggest problem is the heavy ones have disappeared and they are very scarce, irreplaceable.

“What use are they to anyone else unless they want to start their own club?” Maybe scrap metal, Jim?
